She lived in Darrouzett, TX and started attending school through the second grade. In the summer of 1952, Karen and her family moved to a farm north of Follett, TX where she lived until she graduated from Follett High School in 1963.

After graduating from high school Karen attended beauty school and then worked as a hairdresser in Follett and Childress, TX.

In 1969, Karen moved to Dallas, TX to attend Miss Wade’s School of Fashion Merchandising and Design. After graduating from Miss Wade’s, Karen did freelance modeling part time.

In 1970, Karen went to work for Stockton of Dallas Apparel Manufacturers. During this time Karen attended college at night at Richland Junior College. She was also active in a backpacking club.

During the years in Follett, Karen spent a lot of time at her mother’s farm east of Follett enjoying being in the country and helping her maintain the property. She also did some trail riding with her friend, Ellen Wynn and watching roping practice at various locations in the county. She always liked all things western. Karen also devoted much of her time to caring for her mother until her death I January, 2011.
