Jolene Marie (Koch) Corcoran

Jolene Marie Corcoran was born in Lipscomb County, Texas, on March 30, 1938, to Fred (Fritz) and Marie (Miller) Koch. Jolene grew up on the family farm with her sisters, Martha Nell Jenkins and Lela Mae Miller, and loved to play clarinet and basketball.  The sisters also helped their father with the wheat harvest and their mother with the rose and vegetable gardens.  They didn’t have much more free time as they had to study hard for school and rode the bus every day to the Darrouzett School.  

She graduated from Darrouzett High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics and a Special Education certification at West Texas State University.  During this time she married Alford Paul Corcoran on August 31, 1958, at the United Methodist Church in Darrouzett, Texas.  They lived in Mobeetie, Texas, and Lefors, Texas, before returning to the family farm where they raised cattle and harvested wheat, worked in their respective professions, owned and operated the Darrouzett Grocery Store all in addition to raising their four kids:  Michael, DeAnne, Susan and Jason.

After raising their kids, Alford and Jolene moved to Liberal, Kansas, and Amarillo, Texas, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.  In the last year, they moved into an apartment at The Craig Assisted Living.   During these years, Jolene loved to make beautiful quilts by hand and embroidered blankets for her family. She taught various school subjects from elementary to college level for over 40 years and gave selflessly to all those she knew including her family, friends and students. 

She is survived by her husband, Alford Corcoran; her two sisters and their husbands, Martha Nell Jenkins (E.C. Jenkins) and Lela Mae Miller (Sam Miller); her four children and their spouses, Michael Corcoran (Loren States); DeAnne Aguirre (Al Aguirre); Susan Viles (Robert Viles); and Jason Corcoran (Jennifer Corcoran).  Alford and Jolene had 10 grandchildren and their respective spouses including Kelsi Poteet (William Shawn Poteet), Kara Kenny (Brandon Kenny), Mikala Wynn, Brekkyn Corcoran, Riley Stearns, Boston Corcoran, Isabel Aguirre, Alessandra Aguirre, Karinne Aguirre and Raquel Aguirre and four great-grandchildren including Nailah Pfeiffer, William Kelly Poteet, Jaxon Poteet, and Preston Kenny. 

Jolene was proud of her German heritage and a faithful servant to our Lord Jesus Christ.
