Jerry Gerald Baggs was born September 20, 1941 in Woodward Oklahoma and passed away in his home near Laverne, OK on December 28, 2018.  Jerry grew up in the country near May, OK where he attended grade school and later graduated from Fort Supply High School in 1960.  At a young age Jerry began working hard, milking cows every morning and night after school, and throughout his life he maintained this work ethic. He worked for Bob McClung on the Lazy H ranch throughout high school  and then for Bob’s Son Robert McClung from 1987 to 2018.  After finishing high school he had a job working in construction and earth moving, but that year screw worms were really bad, so he decided to quit the lucrative job to do what he really loved, working for a rancher, riding horses, and doctoring cattle!

Jerry served as an electrician in the US Navy from 1963 to 1965, when he was honorably discharged. His service took him all over the world from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, and he was on duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis and his ship was “on high alert” after the assassination of President Kennedy.

In 1964 Jerry married Georgette Luinstra and from this union came his three beloved children, Jay, Lonnie, and Katina.  In the late 60’s he went to work for Lauer Heironymous, north of Buffalo, where he worked for many years.  On June 5th, 1981 Jerry married the love of his life, Carlotta who brought to the family two children, Eric and Misti.  As Jerry and Carlotta raised their kids, they had a busy life fulfilled by ranching, school activities, sports, stock shows, and Ft Supply lake trips.  After the kids were raised, Jerry and Carlotta enjoyed the activities of their grandkids and great grandkids, regularly attending the Cudd Horse Sale where they bought and sold a few good horses, and doing their own rodeoing — Carlotta being his favorite barrel racer and Jerry being her number one fan (and coach!) Jerry was remarkably talented at anything he did and had a competitive spirit that always brought out the best in everyone he played against, whether it was horseshoes, basketball, wrestling, Nickle-knock, roping calves, or Slap-Hands.  In regards to his illness, Jerry often said, “It may kill me, but it’s not gonna beat me!”  One of Jerry’s  many talents was training animals, and he took great pleasure in teaching his dog Lucy, and even his cat, Margaret.  His life was fulfilled by doing the work he loved and being with the people and animals he loved!

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents John and Goldie Baggs, and his sister, Dorothea.  He was survived by his wife, Carlotta of Laverne, OK; his son Jay Baggs and Tammy Hensley of Buffalo; his son Lonnie and Heather Baggs of Woodward, OK; his daughter Katina and Mark Fletcher of Goddard, KS; His stepson, Eric Mix, of May, OK; his stepdaughter Misti and Jason Linville of Laverne, OK; his brother Bob Baggs of May, OK; his brother Winston and Katie Baggs of Las Vegas, NV; his brother Wade and Judy Baggs of Cody, WY; his grandchildren Garrett, Ethan, Kyle, Ashton, Peyton, Dalton, Sierra, Bria, Guy, Owen; his great grandchildren Jaylee, Gavin, Eli, Jolene, Blithe, Quinn, and Grayson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
