James Richard Spradlin

James Richard Spradlin, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in Demorest, Georgia at the age of 79.  He was born December 15, 1937 in Dodge City, Kansas to Paul and Lorene (Miller) Spradlin.  He grew up and attended school in Bloom, Kansas until the 5^th grade when the family moved to Dodge City.  He then attended school in Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1956.

On September 9, 1956 he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Elizabeth (Ford) Spradlin in Dodge City, Kansas.  To this union two daughters were born, Rita and Robin.  The couple made their home in Bloom, Kansas until 1959 when they moved to Dodge City. 

James enjoyed many years of farming and ranching with his father, Paul.  He also worked several jobs as well as farming.  He worked for High Plains Dressed Beef, BJM, Dodge City Community College Construction, Ford County Appraisers Office, and Walmart.  In the 1970’s and 1980’s he started a small construction company and built many homes in Dodge City.

James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dodge City, Kansas.  After moving to Ashland in 2000, he became a member of Ashland Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Sharon; a daughter, Robin Woolwine and son-in-law, Gerry, all of Sautee, Georgia;  one granddaughter, Eva Ann ( Woolwine) Millikan and husband, Brent, and great-grandson Graham Millikan, of Overland Park, Kansas;  grandson, Walt Woolwine and wife, Liana, and great-grandson, Hudson James Woolwine of Midland, Texas; and grandson,  Nathan Havercroft and wife Ali, and great-grandson Kayden Havercroft of Blue Springs, Missouri.  He is also survived by one brother, Joe Spradlin, and wife, Rita, of Lawrence, Kansas; one sister, Sharon Fregon, of Minneola, Kansas, and a host of many other family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lorene Spradlin, and daughter, Rita (Spradlin) Havercroft.
