James Aaron Bowker of Laverne, OK passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, October 19 at the age of 76.

 

He was born February 6, 1942 on the farm east of Laverne to Arnold and Edith (Smith) Bowker.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at a young age. 

 

He attended the Laverne school system where he graduated high school in 1959.  He attended NWOSU for one year before moving back to Laverne where he worked for Merle Swineford. 

 

On February 10, 1961 he married Sula (Evans) and to this union two children were born.  In 1963 they moved to Bagdad, AZ where Jimmy worked as an ore truck driver in an open pit copper mine for five years.  Upon returning to Laverne in 1968 he opened Bowker Motor Service with his dad.  He took a job with Michigan Wisconsin in Laverne, April 1, 1976 and retired while working out of Miami, TX as a pipeline foreman in early 2000.  Upon retirement, they returned to their home in Laverne and Jimmy worked for Seminole Oil and Gas for ten years.  Throughout his life he enjoyed working on vehicles, helping his son in law Greg with harvest, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and fixing anything that was broke for anybody who asked.

 

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Edith Bowker, brothers Billy Wayne Bowker and Ronnie Dean Bowker (in infancy) and two nieces, Jyl Jenkins and Jamie Drew.

 

He is survived by his wife, Sula; children, Pixie Goodnight and husband Greg, Russell Bowker and wife Jeanette; grandchildren, Waco Goodnight and wife Katy, Wes Goodnight and wife Skylie, Aaron Goodnight and wife Shyla, Abigail Bowker, Zachary Bowker and Austin Goodnight; great grandchildren, Bode, Paisley, Blake, Maizy, Madeleine and MiaBella Goodnight; siblings, C. A. Bowker and Ramona White and numerous extended family and friends.
