George O’Dell Harris Sr. was born on April 17, 1931 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Glenn and Edna-Walton Harris.  He passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, in Newman Memorial Hospital at the age of 87 years and 2 days.

Dell was raised in the Gage-Shattuck area. He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse at Stoney Point, 7 miles north of Shattuck.  He continued his education in the Gage-Shattuck Schools.

On December 7, 1950, he married Grace Eileen Powers of Gage.  Together they made their first home in Spearman, Texas where he was foreman at the Billhart Ranch.  They then returned back to Shattuck where he took a position with the Oklahoma State Highway Department.  He attained the position of foreman and retired after 33 plus years of service.

Dell was an accomplished musician.  Starting at a young age, he played in bands for local and out-of-state gatherings.  Throughout his life, he continued to play his fiddle with his finale performance being at the Shattuck Nursing Home two weeks prior to his passing.  He took great pride in playing music with his son, George and grandson, Haydon.

Dell often enjoyed storytelling, woodworking, horses, and serving as a 50 year Mason, but most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren.  He centered his retired years around them.

Dell  is survived by his wife Grace of the home and his four children; George and wife Brenda of Shattuck; David and wife Kathy of Shattuck; LaVada and husband Garth Weidner of Follett, Texas; Denny and wife Lillian of Gage; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Edna Harris; 2 brothers, Haskell and Roland and sister, Mary Buss.
