Claude James O'Hair

Claude James O’Hair, son of Pat and Alice O’Hair, was born April 19, 1929 in Speermore, Oklahoma.  He spent his first few years living in Laverne, Oklahoma.  During WW2 his parents moved to Wichita, Kansas to work at the Air Force Base.  The family moved back to Laverne where Claude graduated from Laverne High School class of 1948.

From 1948 to 1950 Claude worked as a lineman for the Oklahoma State Fuel Company digging ditches until entering into the Air Force on September 21, 1950.  He served 4 years and attended schools in Charleston, West Virginia and Detroit, Michigan.  While stationed in West Virginia he married Mary Ann Waldo in the Baptist Church in St Albans, West Virginia.  To this union four sons were born; Timothy James, Rodney Allen, Gary Pat, and Curtis Ray.

While in the service he was sent to Korea during the Korean War and he received numerous honors such as: Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Defense Medal and Good conduct Medal.  His most significant assignment in Korea was, if you can believe, being in the 812th Motor Vehicle Squad.  He was discharged at Walker Air Force Base on September 21, 1954 in Roswell, New Mexico.

After returning home, he owned and operated a gas station in Woodward, Oklahoma until 1957.  He then joined his father at the O’Hair Motor Co. which is still owned and operated by the 4th generation.

Claude spent the last three years of his life with his sweetheart and lifelong friend, Twila Bentley.  He was adored by Twila’s family and they shared many wonderful memories together.  May his memory be eternal.

Claude has survived by his sons; Tim, Gary and wife Rhonda, daughter-in-law Lisa, all of Laverne; son Curtis of Amarillo, Texas; sister Betty Breon of Laverne; brother Troy O’Hair of Edmond; grandsons Sonny, Matt and Robby; granddaughters Marci and Melani; 2 great grandsons, twins Brendon and Kenneth; and 1 great granddaughter Rhylie.

Claude left this life on August 15, 2019 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Alice O’Hair, son Rodney O’Hair, brother-in law Norval Breon, sister-in-law Pasty O’Hair and granddaughter Dawn O’Hair.
