Carolyn (Waugh) Benzel passed into her Heavenly Home to be with the Lord, October 29th at her home. Carolyn was the 2nd daughter born to Melvin Waugh & Margaret Waugh Knight on Sept. 13, 1937. 

Carolyn graduated from Ashland High School, and married Hughlen Williams shortly thereafter. To that union were born 5 daughters, with the 2nd child, Lori Jean, passing into eternity a few days after her birth. 

 

Carolyn lived in Missouri, Colorado & Kansas as her family grew, ending up in Ashland as a single mom, with her 4 girls. She went to work at Howell Insurance as an insurance underwriter.  Eventually she moved to Dodge City to continue her Insurance career, until retiring from Cimarron Insurance in the late 90’s. In Dodge City she met and married Leonard Benzel, who remained by her side, and they moved back to Ashland, until his passing in July 2015.

 

Carolyn & Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping, spending a great deal of weekend times at the lake. 

 

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, her ex-husband Hugh, her daughter Lori, a grandson Christopher Robin Thompson and a great-grandson London Michael Morris. She is survived by her daughters Vickie Washburn from Owasso OK, Denise (Tom) Danler, Sharon (Matt) Mueller, from Canon City CO, Shelli (Walt) Wollman from Florence CO, step-son Kevin (Marsha) Benzel from Florida, step-daughter Krystal (Beau) Griego from Englewood CO., her sister Reta Mae Young, Buffalo OK, brothers Duane (Carolyn) Waugh, Cherokee OK, Keith (Caroline) Waugh from Oakley KS. Also 8 grandsons & 7 granddaughters, 14 great-grandsons & 17 great-granddaughters, 2 great great-grandsons & 6 great great-granddaughters & numerous nieces and nephews from the Waugh clan. 

 

There will be a Memorial service & dinner at the VFW Hall in Ashland KS, corner of 8th & Highland, at 1:00 pm on Saturday December 2, 2017. Family ask that in lieu of flowers, contributions be given to the local VFW. Private interment will be at a later date.
