Betty Faye (O'Hair) Breon

Betty Faye Breon, daughter of Pat and Alice (Hoch) O’Hair was born August 8, 1930 in Speermore, Oklahoma. She passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2019 at the Harper County Community Hospital in Buffalo, OK at the age of 89 years old.

Betty graduated from Laverne High school with the class of 1949. While still in High School Betty met the Love of her Life Norval George Breon while she was working her first summer job in the local movie theatre; She said while making popcorn one night she caught a glimpse out the glass window of this handsome soldier in military uniform, he step up on side walk and walk toward the window. She said he made eye contact with her and winked & as they say “the rest is history”.   Betty and Norval were united in marriage in the First Baptist Church on August 3, 1948. From this union they had two sons- Tony Norval and Kerry Lee.

Betty and Norval began their life together and moved to the O’Hair homestead (currently occupied by Danny & Helen O’Hair) in 1948. Betty continued to attend High School to finish out her senior year and also work part time at movie theatre. Betty & Norval attended her Senior Prom as husband and wife.  Betty would pack Norval’s lunch every morning before she would head out to school. After graduating Betty stayed home briefly to help Norval on the farm. Their first son Tony was born in 1950    

In 1951 they moved to Norval’s parents homestead (now the Ketron place) in Laverne so Norval could farm for himself and Betty could be closer to town where her family was.  In 1963 their 2nd son Kerry Lee was born.

In 1968 Norval and Betty moved to town where they were able to purchase their first home while he continued working in the Oil Field full time. Betty enjoyed being a homemaker and decorating her new home. She took such pride in her home and raising her kids. Betty always stayed organized and kept a daily schedule even as a homemaker.

She also working various jobs part-time jobs outside the home but one of her favorite places was working for Clyde and Bobbie Wyand at the Globe Clothing House as a sales clerk where she was able to see the latest in fashion and have first dibs to buy the newest hats or shoes.   Betty said on sale day at the Globe her and other co-workers would be to work at sometimes 6:00 am before the store opened to make sure everything was organized and marked for the sale! She said people would come from miles and already start lining up in front of the store all the way down Main Street just to get inside first when the doors opened at 8:00 a.m.

Betty loved to organize, clean and redecorate her home so much she decided to start her own interior decorating business with Bonnie Meyer. For 13 years, Betty and Bonnie would paint and wall paper houses all over Harper & Beaver Counties. There was no job too big for these ladies or that they were afraid to tackle. She always said “we saw a lot of things but made a lot of great memories too”.

Betty worked at the Pioneer place for Bob & Betty Howard and volunteered part-time on the Laverne Ambulance while completing her certifications.

In January of 1982, Betty became the Director /Coordinator for the Laverne Ambulance and this is where she found her passion of helping people and using her profound energy. Betty was known for her quick response at a moment’s notice. Sometimes, complete with curlers in her hair, but oh, so neatly organized, or sometimes with a largely liberated look but always ready to go.  Betty stuck to her pledge to always be prepared and was even known to handle a major blowout while on a run. Betty was organized and kept ahead of everyone CE hours and CRP Classes. She led her crew with wisdom, insight and a lot of wonderful cooked meals. She went above and beyond the call of duty standing in at a moment’s notice for every single crew member when needed.  She maintained an impressive and professional appearance through dress, code of ethics,  record keeping, ambulance maintenance , above all her standard of care was exhibited through the hundreds of lives who depended on her and her crew, to pull them through during their times of need and crisis. Betty served the Laverne ambulance for 10 years and she served the citizens of Harper County and surrounding communities well.

Betty is survived by her two sons- Tony & wife Kaye, Kerry & wife Susan, One Granddaughter- Mistie Gooch & husband Benny Four Grandsons-C.J. & Loren Breon, Dean & Dexter Sams & wife Dejay , 9 great grandchildren, her beloved dog Rambo, and numerous friends and family.

Betty was preceded in death her parents Pat and Alice O’Hair, Husband Norval George Breon, Brother Claude O’Hair.
