Barbara Elaine (Mickey) Mulbery passed away on September 27, 2017 at The Harper County Community Hospital.  Funeral Services will be September 30, 2017 at 10am at The Laverne United Methodist Church with Mike Mahaffey & Dr. Stephen Hale officiating. 

 

Barbara was born April 26, 1946 to Bob Mickey & Dorothy Porterfield in LaJunta, CO.  She married Bill Mulbery in LaJunta, CO on November 12, 1968 & they then made their home in Laverne, OK.

 

Barbara spent many years assisting Karen Brinson refinishing homes in the surrounding area. In 1976 she began working for Charles Cronk at Cronk’s Auto Supply & eventually became the manager for R&R Service Center where she worked until her passing.

 

Over the year’s Barbara served on the Laverne EMS, was a member of the Laverne Business Women’s Professional Club, the Laverne American Legion Post 273 Auxiliary, was an avid supporter of the Laverne Volunteer Fire Dept., and attended the Catesby United Methodist Church.

 

Barbara enjoyed traveling with Bill and their friends; they took several trips to Hawaii & Mexico and later began taking their grandson on trips with them.  Being Granny to Trevor gave her the greatest joy in life.  She looked forward to him spending his summers and school breaks with her and grandpa.  They had many great adventures together.

 

She is survived by her husband, Bill of the home. Two daughters, Vicki Mulbery of Oklahoma City & Karen Mulbery Rummel (Alan) of Dumas, TX  One grandson, Trevor Rummel of Dumas, TX.  She also has one God-son, Jason Doiel, of Colorado Springs, CO.  Sister, Judith Mullen (Bill) of Irvine, CA, two brothers, Curtis Rooks (Patty) of LaJunta, CO and Kent Rooks (Annie) of Larkspur, CO.  Brother in laws & Sister in laws, Mary Ellen Goins (JR) of Fairland, OK, Robert Lee Mulbery (Carol) & Kenneth (Mary Lu) all of Laverne,  Betty Jo Mulbery of Bolivar, MO, Zane Mulbery (Margaret) of Mountain Grove, MO, Numerous nieces and nephews,  she loved being “Aunt Barbara”.  She also leaves several cousins & numerous other relatives.

 

Barbara enjoyed people and never met a person that she did not like.  She greeted everyone with her trademark smile.   She told Trevor more than once:  “To make a friend, you have to be a friend first”.

 

She had a close bond with her sister in laws Mary Lu & Carol.  Barbara had many special people in her life & most she considered family, especially Jan Sober & Salvador Echevarria.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; Dorothy & Floyd Rooks & Bob Mickey, her father in law and mother in law, Raymond & Orpha Mulbery, Brother David Rooks &  sister, Eddie Rooks.

 

Pallbears:  Salvador Echevarria, Dale Waugh, Henry Colon, Van Curtis, Ted Bozarth, Rick Swineford, Tracy Mulbery, & Sean Kelly.  Honorary Pallbears:  Charles Cronk, Curtis Rooks, Kent Rooks, Robert Lee Mulbery, Kenneth Mulbery, Zane Mulbery, Ronnie Waggoner, & RA Devore.

 

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Catesby United Methodist Church (171998 East County Rd 36; Gage, OK  73843) or The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation (PO Box 383; OKC, OK  73101).  Barbara’s family expresses their deepest gratitude to all the staff of the Harper County Community Hospital, especially “Dr. Steve”, Dr. Sizelove, Alainee Deal, & Jennifer Sparks for caring for our wife, mom, & Granny.
