Rene Aaron Heil, 67, of Follett, Texas, passed away on July 25, 2011. He was born on May 27, 1944 to Dale and Lois (Haines) Heil.

As a man with a keen love of learning, Rene was highly educated. He was forever the student! Rene's love of learning lead to many professions throughout his life; He was a professor, professional photographer, and a published author. Master Potter, River Raft Guide, Paramedic, and Chaplain are also professions that can be added to his life's resume.

Rene loved his ranch and spent many hours working in the yard, as could be seen through the beautiful handiwork portrayed in his flowers and producing orchard. His enjoyment included sitting outside reading a book and watching the critters come up to his porch to feed.

Rene was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Louis Dale. He is survived by his son, Kirk Heil of Amarillo, two grandsons, Justin and Caleb Heil, his ex-wife, Margaret Ann Heil, a sister, Rebecca Short, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

The family requests memorials to be given to the Follett Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 601, Follett, Texas 79034.

WE WILL MISS YOU DAD!

Rene "The Potter" as I always called him was a wonderful man and artist I have such great memory's of him teaching me to throw pot's and long talks about art and life in a time in my life when as a struggling artist no one got me "Rene got me" although the years passed and My life's path led me away from the artist world. The last time I ran into Rene he said to me" What a beautiful Family I had." In my heart I know that was his way of telling me that although art was not in my life anymore the path I had took had blessed me. I think Rene lived life the way it's intended to, to it's fullest till the end rest in peace my friend.

To the Heil family, My Prayers pour out to you at this time. Rene was very dear to our family. He was my 7th grade teacher at Arnett ;) His heart was always so full of passion and love. His last visit to my Mother, Jean Moore, four days prior to her passing was truly blessed. Thanks for all you did and for all the lives you touched. Miss you!

I cannot begin to tell you how much of a privilege it has been to know Rene for the years I have lived in Follett. He was one of the most Gentle and Loving people I have ever met. Whenever anyone would visit with him, he would always cause the conversation to come around to them, he truly cared about others.

The museum was always one of Rene stop coming and going from Follett. To see if we had a sufficient stock of his books and to see if there was anything he could do for us. We will miss his visits, his books, and most of all him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of loss.

I was stunned and saddened to learn of Rene's passing. I met Rene through work at TPMHA and then again at TPMHMR when he returned just briefly. Rene was such an interesting person and I enjoyed visiting with him. We shared the love of animals and ranching. We talked about him coming out to the ranch in NM during branding time to take pictures. I'm sorry that never happened. I will treasure the pictures he sent me over the years. He will be missed.

Let me apologize for the tardiness of this repsonse. I have been out of the country for the past year and a half and only just learned of Rene's death. I knew him from our time as therapists at the local MHMR working wtih troubled children. I really treasured our long philisophical conversations about life and things. He was truly a student of life and I'm surprised this world contained his curiousity for as long as it did. No doubt Rene and God are having some very long, thoughtful discussions about people, art and life. Having lost several family members recently I understand the huge hole that exists in all of your lives and hearts. Holes that will not be replaced. Fortunetly God gave us the ability to live with holes. Bless you all in this time. Know that Rene touched many lives and that his pressence lives on in us all.
