John Meridith Prophet

John “Johnny” M Prophet was born November 25, 1935, on the family farm southwest of Buffalo, Oklahoma.  He passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017, in Clarendon, Texas at the age of 81.  He was the son of Samuel J. and Myrtle (Limb) Prophet.

He attended Buffalo Public Schools, grades 1- 11, and, then graduated at Enid, Oklahoma. 

He married Frances Taft of Laverne, Oklahoma, on August 22, 1953.  From this union three children were born.  They were married for 63 years and 11 months. 

Johnny served in the National Guard for several years.  Some of his hobbies were hunting, fishing, helping his children participating at sporting and livestock events.  He enjoyed the challenge of inventing tools that would help with the farm work.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Trenia (Prophet) Cotney; two grandsons, Dustin C. Karber and Daniel Martin; seven brothers, and two sisters.

Johnny leaves behind at home, Frances, the Love of his Life; his son, Randy and wife Delaine Prophet of Laverne, Oklahoma; a daughter, Marva and husband Stan Karber, of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; son-in-law, Randy Cotney of Perryton, Texas; five grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sheila Prophet of Woodward, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
