JEAN (BARKER) SCHWEITZER

       Jean Barker Schweitzer was born in Bebe, Arkansas on July 14, 1927.  She lived there until 1935 when her family moved to Judsonia, Arkansas where her father worked on the highway department for the state of Arkansas.  She attended school there and then moved to Baldknob, Arkansas for her 9th and 10th grade years.  From there they moved back to Bebe to graduate.
      Jean was very close to her family, having two sisters, Anita and Pat.  She, along with her parents, always had Sunday Dinners and stayed very close all the years they were together.  Her parents never lived far away.  When her father went to Oakridge to work for the federal government, the girls followed.  They each had families, and Jean, having two little boys, worked as the office manager for the State of Tennessee in the unemployment office.  She was always the classiest lady in the office, wearing those high heels every day.
     Jean met Raymond Schweitzer, who was the new assistant city manager of Oakridge, and they immediately enjoyed each other’s company.  They were married on May 30, 1966.  They made their home in Oakridge for the time.
     From there they moved all over the state as Ray took city manager jobs.  They went to Arizona, Nevada, and finally California.  Ray retired in Banning, California.  Jean was always the first lady of the city manager, dressing the part.  Her favorite thing to do was shop.  Moving all the time took her to cities such as Dayton, Alcoa, and Morristown, Tennessee, then to Prescott, Arizona, back to Tennessee, then North Las Vegas, Nevada, then San Bernardino, California, finally to Banning, California.
     As you can see, she was a real soldier about moving.  Her shopping trips decorating the new homes were so much fun for her and as Ray says, she even came home once, “without buying anything”, which was very unusual.
     Ray and Jean moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma in 2015, moving closer to family.
     She lost a son Steve in 1972; she leaves behind her husband Raymond of the home, a son Gary of Las Vegas, Karen and Kelly Kirby, Lee Bryson and family, her sister-in-law Judith Grey of North Carolina, and sister-in -law Claudette Ehrlich of Shattuck
