Clara Marie McKee of Amarillo, Texas passed away peacefully on June 16, 2017.  Mrs. McKee was born on April 13, 1921 in Olpe, Kansas, but lived most of her life in Lipscomb County, Texas.  Most recently, Mrs. McKee was a resident of the Park Central community in Amarillo.

She graduated from Follett High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.  She worked as a legal assistant and administrative assistant in Shattuck, Oklahoma, where she met Marion McKee.  They were married in February of 1947, and lived several years in Lipscomb, Texas.  From there, they moved to a farm near Booker, Texas, and later into Booker, where Mrs. McKee served as city secretary.  After many years in Booker, Mr. and Mrs. McKee retired to Higgins, Texas.  After Mr. McKee passed away in 1994, Mrs. McKee continued to live in Higgins until medical issues required that she move to Amarillo, where she resided until her death.

Mrs. McKee was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She was known for her family dinners, and for never missing a family birthday with a birthday cake.  Mrs. McKee was a strong woman who survived many challenges, and inspired dreams in her children and grandchildren.  She believed in the value of education, hard work, and firm belief that with perseverance and unshakeable faith, all things can be accomplished.

She is survived by her two children, Dr. Mark McKee of Naperville, Illinois and his wife, Daphne; her daughter, Sherry Kunka of Amarillo, Texas, and her husband, Glen; her three grandchildren, Marcie Schade and husband, Phillip of Danville, California; Jessica McKee of Perth, Australia; and Austin McKee of Osaka, Japan; and two great grandchildren, Matthew and Brett Schade of Danville, California.

The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Village at Park Central.  Their support during this time of immense grief is much appreciated and will not be forgotten.

Memorial made in Mrs. McKee’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell Street, Amarillo, TX 79109.
